Friman · From operations to information

Context

In food distribution, information systems are tied to physical operations: purchasing, storage and distribution. My work at Friman between 2020 and 2022 sat at the intersection of logistics activity, management tools and the information used to understand the business.

My role

As Project Manager, I contributed to projects for the design and implementation of an ERP, a warehouse management system and a Business Intelligence data warehouse. The value of this work lay in understanding the operations that those systems needed to represent and support.

What I did

• Worked on ERP and WMS projects related to business and warehouse management, connecting the operational perspective with information systems.
• Contributed to the data warehouse and BI solutions supporting activity analysis, alongside work on transactional systems.
• Considered processes and information together: what happens in operations, how the tools record it and which information is used to track activity.

Technology and scope

ERP, warehouse management systems (WMS), logistics, data warehouses and Business Intelligence. The working relationship was operations → warehouse → management systems → information → follow-up.

Outcome and learning

I learned to relate physical activity to the systems supporting it. That connection remains relevant to my product focus: a solution needs to make sense both to the people working with it and to those using the information it generates.
